Scheduling

Your marriage retreat will have plenty of opportunities for romantic moments.

These marriage counseling retreats always start early on a Sunday morning and end on the following Saturday late afternoon. It would be best for you to arrive in Oriental the day before and stay in one of the excellent bed and breakfast inns that are shown on the Oriental web page.  You can visit the inn website to get contact information for your reservation. If you are traveling by air to New Bern Airport, the taxi ride takes about a half hour to Oriental. Dr. Kaye or   Helen Kaye will pick you up from your bed and breakfast inn on the morning of  your voyage.

Agenda

Prior to arriving, Dr. Kaye will mail you both a packet of surveys to complete (3 hours work) and bring with you to the sessions. These surveys will help to assess subtle emotional dynamics so that Bryce and Helen can have more insight into your relationship.  Bryce and Helen will be assessing a number of critical areas of your relationship:  emotional regulation, attachment ambivalence, unconscious inhibition of necessary meta-motivational states, boundary intrusions, state management skills and awareness of principles that protect a relationship and destructive habits that degrade a partner’s sense of safety in the relationship.  Counseling sessions will include experiential exercises and homework exercises will be given between counseling sessions.  In order to get the most of this retreat it is recommended for each partner to read chapters 2, 3, 4, 5 and 8 in the Marriage First Aid Kit on this website.   This will give you a good feel for the depth at which this retreat will operate.

Meals & Lodging

The cost of on-shore meals and lodging are not covered in the price of these marriage counseling retreats. Reservations for lodging at the bed and breakfast inns should be   placed only after consultation with your captain. Prevailing weather   considerations and route planning may limit the viability of some reservations.   The captain will give you recommendations for dining on shore.

Weather Safety Policy

Any responsible  mariner knows that safety of passengers and vessel is the highest  priority.  All preferred routes and  destinations for the marriage counseling retreat will be evaluated for safety by the captain before departure.   At his sole discretion, the captain may  determine that a route or destination change may be warranted due to projected  weather or sea conditions.  There may be  some days when the captain might even determine that the weather is projected  to be too hazardous to leave port.  This  is the inherent uncertainty when traveling so close to nature.

If a preferred route is revised by the  captain, your preference for an alternate route will be given high  priority consideration.
