This was one of those unusual weekends where we headed to the mountains instead of the coast. Usually the third weekend in October is the height of the fall color, but unfortunately that was not the case this year. Apparently the mountains had a lot of rain but very mild temps, so the leaves have not reached their peak color yet except for the very highest elevations. In spite of the lack of bright scarlet and orange, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves the past three days.
We were joined in the mountains with our good friends and sailing buddies, Jim and Kaye, and their two pomaranians, Jack (Suzy’s “husband”) and Taz. We enjoyed exploring several of the cute mountain towns like Brevard, Maggie Valley and Bryson City. We went to an orchard for apples, did a wine tasting in a vineyard, and bought some Christmas gifts at a local fair. We also went to a brewery in Asheville for a lovely meal plus the local brew. All told, it was a splendid weekend!
