Yesterday we took off bright and early for Ocracoke Island. It was a lovely sunny day with light breezes. Bryce and I hoisted the mizzen and main sails but had to keep the diesel engine running to move at any reasonable speed. Six hours after setting out from Oriental we arrived at the Park Service docks and tied up the boat. In that six hours we began to learn about the dynamics that were keeping our couple from having a rewarding relationship. Many tears were spilled as their stories were told. Later in the aftternoon our couple returned to the boat and spent another two hours with us.
This morning we spent time doing some teaching about the dynamics of good relationships and gave our couple some exercises to practice. This afternoon they will return and the teaching will commence. All 7-day Odyssey couples get approximately 28 hours of relationship coaching. It is very intense but the results are dramatic.
Tomorrow we plan to have a long day on the water. We will leave the island very early and sail up the Pamlico Sound and Neuse River to New Bern. And as we sail stories unfold and changes begin to happen.
