This evening we get to meet our new Odyssey couple at the Captain’s Dinner. The days leading up to this are always full of anticipation. Will they like us? Will they trust us? Will we be able to help them? So I feel anxiety before the start of each Odyssey.
When we get a new couple for an Odyssey, Bryce and I try to have an initial phone conversation to determine whether we are a good fit. We ask the couple what is going wrong or not working in their relationship. If it seems like something that can be modified and it seems like both husband and wife are commited to working on the issues, then we send them by mail a packet of questionnaires for both parties to fill out and return to us. The week before the planned Odyssey Bryce scores the questionnaires and then shares his findings with me. That way we have some understanding about what is happening and early history that may be still working in the background. But it is not until we meet the new couple and spend time talking about the problems that we really get a handle on what needs to be done. So here I am waiting in anticipation to meet these two new individuals.
